About The Role

We are seeking a dedicated Junior Software Engineer to join our Investment Experience Technology team within USAA's Technology group. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative investment solutions that enhance digital experiences for our members and financial advisors. As part of a startup-minded, agile environment, you will collaborate with experienced professionals to design, develop, and implement scalable, high-quality software solutions using modern technologies, including Go, Java, APIs, and OpenShift. Your work will support the creation of next-generation investment platforms that deliver seamless, intelligent, and digital-first experiences. This position provides a chance to grow your technical expertise while working on impactful projects that align with USAA's mission of empowering members through innovative financial technology.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree or have equivalent professional experience, which can be demonstrated through two additional years of relevant work experience or approved certifications from recognized programs such as CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT, or eFIT. Candidates should have foundational knowledge in software development, particularly with Java or Python, and the ability to articulate technical challenges and solutions effectively. A basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools is preferred. Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to learn, adapt, and collaborate within a team environment. Strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a passion for technology are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, code, and test technical solutions under the guidance of senior engineers.

Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code to deliver new features and enhancements regularly.

Investigate and resolve technical issues and production outages through troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques.

Contribute to improving the stability, scalability, and performance of applications.

Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for developed solutions.

Develop and refine automated tests to ensure high code quality and reliability.

Assist in identifying and managing risks associated with business activities, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
