Forward Deployed Engineer - RF / Embedded Systems
About the role
A well-funded and rapidly growing Communications Technology company is seeking a highly adaptable Forward Deployed Engineer to join their talented team in Los Angeles.
This is a broad but highly technical role that blends elements of embedded systems, RF/networking, software development, and customer-facing delivery.
You’ll work directly with Space and Defense customers, taking ownership of deploying and integrating embedded devices, while ensuring performance, reliability, and seamless operation across environments. You will
Integrate communications systems into customer environments
Work alongside internal teams to engineer the products for customers' needs
Build and maintain networking and system-level software across embedded Linux, lab setups, and cloud platforms
Monitor and optimise data flow through SDR pipelines and network infrastructure
Ensure system resilience across both terrestrial and space-based applications
Work with containerised services to support scalable and reliable deployments
Contribute to system design discussions, offering input on architecture and implementation
Enhance observability and performance of communication software systems
Key Skills & Experience:
Technical background in software development on Linux-based systems OR a background in developing RF hardware
Strong programming skills in C, C++, and/or Python
Hands-on experience with GNURadio
Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, UDP, etc.)
Familiarity with SDRs and RF systems
Experience with cloud environments and container technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
Track record of delivering robust, production-ready software
Confident communicator, comfortable working directly with customers and cross-functional teams
Background in embedded systems and/or digital signal processing
Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or similar discipline
Salary Range: $150k-$200k base depending on level hired, plus equity.
Note: Successful candidates must have U.S. citizenship or permanent residency due to government contract requirements.
