About The Role

The Data Scientist at Starbucks plays a pivotal role in supporting business decision-making processes through advanced data analysis and modeling. This position involves partnering with cross-functional teams to understand complex data relationships, develop core data science models, and create scalable data pipelines. The successful candidate will leverage data to generate actionable insights, build and improve predictive models, and deliver decision-ready outputs that integrate seamlessly into operational workflows. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills to translate data findings into strategic recommendations that drive business growth and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

Minimum of 1+ year of experience in data science, applied analytics, or related fields

Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Psychology, or related fields

Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and manipulation

Strong programming skills in Python and/or R for data preparation, modeling, and pipeline development

Working knowledge of common modeling techniques including regression, classification, decision trees, clustering, and causal inference

Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms

Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex insights clearly and effectively

Attention to detail and strong problem-solving capabilities

Responsibilities

Extract, shape, and validate data using SQL and other frameworks to create analytically-ready datasets supporting measurement and decision-making

Develop, implement, and refine data science models to address business challenges and improve existing models

Create and maintain scalable data pipelines for model training, deployment, and output management within shared codebases

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into analytical solutions

Design and build dashboards, visualizations, and reports to communicate insights, monitor model performance, and validate outputs

Explain methodology choices and implications of data-driven recommendations to stakeholders at various levels

Support model measurement and monitoring efforts to ensure ongoing accuracy and relevance of analytics solutions

Document processes, maintain reproducible workflows, and adhere to version control standards
