About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Machine Learning Engineer to join our team and play a critical role in enhancing Waymo's fleet monitoring capabilities. In this position, you will be responsible for designing, scaling, and optimizing our real-time fleet monitoring and event response engine to support our expansion into global markets. Your expertise will be pivotal in developing advanced spatial-temporal anomaly detection models, utilizing multimodal foundation models to identify and respond to off-nominal operations automatically. You will also build and standardize the machine learning infrastructure for fleet monitoring, including automated training and inference pipelines, low-latency spatial data stores, and continuous model drift monitoring. Collaborating closely with product data scientists, you will translate experimental prototypes into robust, production-grade systems that support our mission of safe and reliable autonomous driving. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
5+ years of experience programming in backend languages such as Java or C++
Proven experience in building backend platforms supporting multiple product use cases and services
Prior experience in Machine Learning Engineering using Python and frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras
Strong understanding of ML pipelines, data processing, and deployment in production environments
Experience with spatial-temporal data modeling and anomaly detection techniques
Familiarity with low-latency data stores, in-memory data grids, and model drift monitoring
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and optimize Waymo’s real-time fleet monitoring and event response systems to support global deployment
Create and deploy spatial-temporal anomaly detection models, leveraging advanced techniques such as S2-cell regressions and multimodal foundation models
Build scalable ML infrastructure, including automated training and inference pipelines, and low-latency spatial data storage solutions
Implement continuous monitoring processes to detect and address model drift, ensuring system robustness
Collaborate with product data scientists to productionize experimental models, translating prototypes into reliable, scalable systems
Maintain and improve existing ML models and infrastructure, ensuring high performance and accuracy
Stay updated on the latest advancements in ML, spatial data analysis, and autonomous vehicle technologies to incorporate best practices
