About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Java Full Stack Software Engineer Senior to join our dynamic Investment Experience Technology team within USAA's Technology group. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and implementing high-impact, scalable solutions on our new investment services platform. Working in a fast-paced, agile environment, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver digital-first experiences that enhance investment solutions for our members and financial advisors. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work with modern technologies such as Go, Java, APIs, and OpenShift, contributing to innovative financial solutions that align with USAA’s mission of service excellence and technological advancement. The role is based in San Antonio, TX, or Plano, TX, with a requirement of in-office presence four days per week. Please note that relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent 4 years of relevant education and experience

Minimum of 5+ years of software development experience with a strong focus on enterprise application development

Proficiency in Java and modern software engineering principles

Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues and implementing solutions

Hands-on experience with cloud technologies, secure coding practices, and enterprise-scale application development

Deep expertise in Java Full Stack development, including batch processing

Experience designing and implementing scalable API-first solutions using Spring Boot, REST APIs, Docker, and enterprise integration patterns

Strong understanding of designing secure, resilient, high-performing enterprise applications considering non-functional requirements

Experience with cloud-native application design and event-driven architectures using Kafka and data streaming technologies

Proficiency with modern engineering practices such as TDD, automated testing, Git, GitLab CI, Maven, and Gradle

Knowledge of solution design, systems integration, and enterprise architecture principles

Responsibilities

Design, develop, code, and test complex technical solutions across multiple technologies, including emerging technologies, to integrate existing systems and tools

Lead code and design reviews, ensuring quality standards and effective communication with stakeholders

Create complex algorithms to address business needs and optimize system performance

Investigate and resolve complex application and system issues, including troubleshooting production problems

Mentor and coach engineers on system design, development, and maintenance, reviewing teammates’ code for quality assurance

Influence the architecture and quality standards within their domain, ensuring solutions meet enterprise requirements

Identify and resolve system performance issues, technical debt, and optimize solutions for efficiency

Ensure risks related to business activities are effectively identified, monitored, and controlled in compliance with policies and procedures
