Principal Software Engineer
About the role
For our client, we are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Finance & Insurance space.
This role will shape the architecture and technical direction of core payment and card issuing systems that operate at scale. You will partner closely with product management and engineering leadership to improve performance, reliability, and resiliency across a high-volume processing environment. The position combines hands-on software development with strategic technical influence, including mentoring senior engineers and driving measurable engineering excellence.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $242,400 – $303,000 annually
Responsibilities
Own the technical roadmap and design scalable payment processing products
Write, review, and optimize code across the processing stack
Identify and drive initiatives to improve core processing performance and reliability
Work with Product Managers to provide technical insights on multiple product domains
Mentor and influence engineering leads and establish success metrics for technical excellence
Promote modern software design best practices to strengthen platform resiliency
Qualifications
12+ years of hands-on software engineering experience
Proven passion for software excellence and design principles
Experience developing scalable microservices using modern cloud technologies, especially AWS
Strong background in high-volume, low-latency data infrastructures
Familiarity with security engineering best practices in system design
Experience with systems operating across multiple regions
Proficiency with Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, Kafka, JPOS, and AWS services
