About the role

For our client, we are seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Storage Services to join the team of a leader in the Consumer Technology space.

This role will focus on building and evolving large-scale storage infrastructure that supports reliable, high-performance data services. You will partner closely with engineering teams to improve scalability, latency, and operational resilience across critical systems. The position also calls for strong technical leadership, with an emphasis on architecture, execution, and mentoring engineers in a fast-moving environment.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $177,185 – $364,795 annually

Responsibilities

Guide and direct a team building reliable, high-performance storage systems

Lead the architecture and design of online structured storage services for large datasets

Drive modernization initiatives for the storage tech stack, focusing on reliability and scalability

Enhance query throughput and system latency using performance engineering practices

Utilize AI for system design, decision-making, and operational automation

Participate in on-call duties to manage critical issues and set technical excellence standards

Mentor senior engineers to develop future leaders in storage infrastructure

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience

8+ years of hands-on backend software engineering experience in large-scale distributed systems

Experience managing core infrastructure systems, preferably in online structured data storage or distributed databases

Strong understanding of distributed SQL or NoSQL databases and their internals

Experience with modern distributed storage/database technologies, particularly TiDB or similar

Demonstrated technical leadership in setting roadmap and driving execution across teams

Strong problem-solving skills and experience coding in Java, Python, or C/C++

Experience leveraging AI to enhance operations and development
