Principal AI Engineer - Personalization and Recommendation

For our client, we are seeking a Principal AI Engineer - Personalization and Recommendation to join the team of a leader in the Healthcare space.
This role will shape the applied AI and ML capabilities that support personalized healthcare experiences at scale. You will own the technical direction for recommendation and matching systems that help connect patients with the right clinical resources and streamline operational workflows. The position partners closely with product, engineering, and clinical stakeholders to deliver safe, reliable, and scalable AI solutions. This is an opportunity to influence the architecture, standards, and infrastructure behind mission-critical ML initiatives in a healthcare environment.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $150,000 – $180,000 annually
Responsibilities
Own applied AI and ML solutions supporting healthcare experiences
Design production-grade AI systems for patient-provider matching and clinical workflows
Develop advanced recommendation engines and retrieval models
Set technical standards for AI safety in clinical environments
Lead the buildout of core ML infrastructure for scalability
Qualifications
10+ years of software engineering experience, including 7+ years designing and scaling distributed systems
5+ years of experience with search, ranking, relevance, or recommendation engines
Strong programming skills in Python and another backend language such as TypeScript, Java, or Go
Proven experience with traditional search infrastructure and modern vector databases
3+ years of MLOps experience and experience defining AI/ML technical strategy
