About the role

For our client, we are seeking a Lead Software Engineer - Real-Time Events to join the team of a leader in the Business Services space.

This role will own the design and delivery of high-throughput, real-time event systems that support critical production workflows. The engineer will partner closely with product, data, and consumer-facing teams to improve reliability, performance, and adherence to business SLAs. This is a hands-on technical leadership role with visibility across architecture, implementation, operations, and incident response.

Lead architectural discussions, own key pipeline initiatives, and guide the design and launch of production features for the real-time event platform.

Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies that create operational advantages and implement them in production.

Collaborate with product, data, and consumer teams to align system performance with business SLAs.

Mentor team members through design and code reviews, ensuring quality delivery.

Improve service instrumentation and alerting, and manage on-call responsibilities directly.

Drive post-incident analysis to support continuous improvement of system reliability.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $200,000 – $210,000 annually

Responsibilities

Qualifications

8-10 years in software engineering at a Lead/Staff level on event or data-infrastructure systems

Production experience with event streaming technologies such as Kafka or equivalent, as well as Python services and APIs

Proficiency in cloud technologies, particularly AWS services like S3, SNS, and Lambda

Experience with the full software development lifecycle, including monitoring and on-call responsibilities

Strong programming skills in Python; experience in Scala or Java is a plus

Proficiency with databases used in event pipelines, such as Postgres, MySQL, or DynamoDB

Familiarity with scheduling tools like Apache Airflow

Proven ability to manage high-throughput pipelines operationally
