## About the Role

Raytheon, an RTX business, is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join its Effectors Center within the Software organization in Tucson, Arizona. This technical role works within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment to architect, design, implement, test, debug, and deploy embedded real-time software for firmware (FPGA) and hardware solutions supporting current and next-generation autonomous avionics systems.

The role is suited to an experienced embedded software engineer with a strong foundation in real-time software, hardware/firmware integration, and embedded systems. Defense industry experience is not required. The successful candidate will collaborate with Product Owners, Chief Engineers, management, and cross-disciplinary IPT members using Lean and/or Agile practices, while also teaching and mentoring less experienced engineers.

## Key Responsibilities

• Architect, design, implement, test, and debug integrated embedded real-time software.
• Develop software for heterogeneous systems involving firmware, hardware, and software.
• Deploy embedded software supporting autonomous avionics systems.
• Work with cross-disciplinary teams to define and refine product concepts.
• Improve product implementation, testability, and measurable quality.
• Develop, test, and integrate software for edge or embedded devices and subsystems.
• Address hardware operation, time-critical functions, functional reliability, mission assurance, and safety considerations.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Chief Engineers, management, and other IPT members.
• Apply Lean and/or Agile practices to embedded software development.
• Teach, coach, and mentor less experienced staff.
• Contribute to proposals and preliminary and critical design reviews.
• Work across the product line in collaboration with other teams.
• Obtain program access as required.

## Required Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
• Minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience.
• Experience in at least two of the following areas:

• Embedded C++ software
• Embedded software security
• Software architecture design and implementation
• Experience using embedded Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS), such as Green Hills, Integrity, Wind River VxWorks, or Linux.
• Experience developing complex systems involving hardware, firmware, and software integration.
• Active and transferable final Secret U.S. government-issued security clearance required prior to the start date.
• Ability to obtain program access after starting.

## Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with reading electrical schematics and relating them to software functions.
• Familiarity with firmware source code such as VHDL or Verilog.
• Familiarity with assembly language in at least one processor/controller family.
• Experience using laboratory instruments such as power supplies, digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
• Experience developing device drivers for bare-metal and/or operating system applications.

## Compensation & Benefits

**Salary Range:** $86,800 – $165,200 USD

The salary range is a good-faith estimate covering all experience levels. RTX considers factors including the role, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills when determining offers.

## Compliance / Additional Information

This position requires an **active and transferable final Secret U.S. government-issued security clearance prior to the start date**. U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
