Senior Software Engineer in Test
About the role
Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Test (SDET) in the RTP NC area, to join a cybersecurity and compliance-focused technology organization. The Senior Software Engineer in Test (SDET) will own automation strategy and quality engineering initiatives for a platform that supports certification program tracking, project oversight, reporting, and risk management. This opportunity is ideal for a testing professional who combines strong software development expertise with a proven ability to build automation frameworks from the ground up and drive quality throughout the software delivery lifecycle. This is a long-term open-ended contract.
Responsibilities of the Senior Software Engineer in Test (SDET):
Establish and lead the testing approach for a platform used to manage certification programs, project milestones, deliverables, and reporting.
Develop scalable automation solutions for web applications, APIs, backend services, and data processing workflows.
Create comprehensive test suites covering user workflows, integrations, reporting functionality, notifications, and system accuracy.
Work closely with engineering teams to integrate automated quality controls into CI/CD processes and release pipelines.
Analyze defects, improve system reliability, and champion best practices related to testability, observability, and software quality.
Qualifications of the Senior Software Engineer in Test (SDET):
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science.
5+ years of experience working as a Software Engineer in Test (SDET) or in a senior quality engineering role.
Proven track record of designing and building a test automation framework from scratch.
Strong coding skills in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar object-oriented programming languages.
Experience testing APIs, enterprise applications, distributed systems, and CI/CD-driven environments.
Preferred Qualifications of the Senior Software Engineer in Test (SDET):
Background supporting workflow, project management, analytics, or reporting platforms.
Exposure to cybersecurity, compliance-driven programs, or regulated environments.
Experience validating cloud-based applications hosted in AWS or Azure.
Knowledge of security testing methodologies and vulnerability validation practices.
Familiarity with complex dashboards, business intelligence tools, and data visualization platforms.
Compensation for the Senior Software Engineer in Test (SDET) includes:
Salary: $110,000-$145,000 annually
