Summary

The Ash Group is hiring a Sr. Mainframe Software Engineer (24579) for our client who designs, develops, and supplies global infrastructure technology, split evenly across advanced semiconductor hardware and enterprise infrastructure software. This is a Fulltime position working in Palo Alto, CA (Onsite). Salary range is from 140K - 220K based on skill set.

Senior Mainframe Software Engineer responsible for designing, building, and modernizing enterprise applications on the mainframe platform. The role focuses on delivering high-quality, accessible software through agile practices and continuous improvement. Engineers will collaborate with product and engineering teams to drive innovation and maintain best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop high-quality software architecture for mainframe applications

Build, test, and debug functional solutions leveraging mainframe expertise

Collaborate with product management and fellow engineers in an Agile environment

Automate processes using appropriate tools and scripting

Drive continuous improvement and technology innovation within the team

Share knowledge and best practices with product software engineers

Perform validation and verification testing of software deliverables

Mentor junior engineers and support their professional growth

Lead engineering excellence initiatives, promoting code quality and debt reduction

Contribute to retrospectives and proactively address productivity impediments

Ensure software remains current with emerging technologies and industry standards

Maintain strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging capabilities

Qualifications

Proven mainframe knowledge and skills

IBM Assembler Language (HLASM) proficiency

z/OS operating system familiarity

Experience with CA 1 Flexible Storage, Vtape, DASD Storage Management, DFSMS, Allocate, DFShsm, DFSrmm and/or other mainframe storage products and systems is a plus

Source control systems experience (Endevor / ISPW / etc.)

Experience with online z/OS debugger is desirable (XDC / SLD)

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills

Proficiency in Metal C (or PL/X) and JCL

Scripting language experience is desirable

Experience in developing authorized code is desirable

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent

Eight or more years of experience in software development or a related field
