About The Role

The Senior AI Engineer at Capital One will play a pivotal role in advancing the company's AI capabilities by designing, developing, and deploying scalable AI solutions. This position involves working closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, research scientists, product managers, and program managers, to create innovative AI-powered products that enhance customer interactions and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in AI and machine learning, with a passion for building systems that are both high-performing and responsible. You will contribute to shaping the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems, ensuring that Capital One remains a leader in AI-driven banking solutions.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate possesses a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields, with a minimum of three years of experience in developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies. A master’s degree in the same disciplines with at least one year of relevant experience is also acceptable. Proven programming expertise in Python, Go, Scala, or Java is essential. Preferred qualifications include four years of experience deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure, along with experience in developing and supporting AI services. Familiarity with state-of-the-art techniques for optimizing training and inference software, as well as a deep understanding of hardware and software optimization, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a passion for staying current with research, an ability to solve complex problems, and a resilient, innovative mindset.

Responsibilities

The Senior AI Engineer will be responsible for partnering with multidisciplinary teams to deliver AI-powered products that revolutionize customer and employee experiences. Core responsibilities include designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining AI software components such as foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, guardrails, and governance tools. You will leverage a broad stack of open-source and SaaS AI technologies, including AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, and PyTorch, to build scalable and efficient AI systems. The role also involves inventing and implementing state-of-the-art optimization techniques to enhance the performance, scalability, cost-efficiency, and latency of large-scale AI systems. Additionally, you will contribute to the technical vision and strategic roadmap for foundational AI systems at Capital One, ensuring alignment with business goals and technological advancements.
