About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior AI Engineer to join our Intelligent Foundations and Experiences (IFX) team at Capital One. In this role, you will be at the forefront of developing and deploying advanced AI systems that redefine how banking services are delivered. You will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, research scientists, product managers, and technical program managers to create scalable, responsible, and innovative AI solutions. Your work will directly impact millions of customers by enhancing product capabilities, improving operational efficiency, and enabling new, transformative banking experiences. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with state-of-the-art AI technologies, including large language models, similarity search, and governance frameworks, in a fast-paced, innovative environment focused on responsible AI practices.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation and a passion for building impactful AI systems. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, or related fields, along with at least three years of experience in developing AI and ML algorithms, is required. Alternatively, a Master’s degree with a minimum of one year of relevant experience is acceptable. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, Scala, or Java is essential. Candidates should demonstrate familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure, and experience deploying scalable AI solutions. A deep understanding of AI model training, inference, optimization techniques, and responsible AI principles is highly desirable. The candidate must be adaptable, innovative, and capable of translating complex scientific research into practical, production-ready systems.

Responsibilities

As a Senior AI Engineer, your responsibilities will include partnering with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement AI-powered products that enhance customer and employee experiences. You will be responsible for building and supporting AI software components such as foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, and model governance frameworks. Your role will involve leveraging open-source and SaaS AI technologies—including AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, and PyTorch—to create efficient and scalable solutions. You will also be tasked with inventing and applying cutting-edge optimization techniques to improve the performance, scalability, latency, and cost-efficiency of AI systems. Additionally, you will contribute to shaping the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems at Capital One, ensuring alignment with business goals and responsible AI standards.
