About The Role

The Senior AI Engineer will play a pivotal role in advancing Capital One's AI capabilities by designing, developing, and deploying innovative AI systems. This position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams—including engineers, research scientists, product managers, and technical program managers—to create AI-powered products that enhance both customer interactions and internal operations. The Senior AI Engineer will be responsible for building foundational AI components such as large language models, similarity search engines, and governance frameworks, ensuring these solutions are scalable, responsible, and aligned with Capital One’s strategic vision. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work with state-of-the-art AI technologies, contribute to the long-term technical roadmap, and help shape the future of responsible AI within the organization.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 3 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies, or a Master's degree in a similar field plus at least 1 year of relevant experience

At least 3 years of programming experience with Python, Go, Scala, or Java

Responsibilities

Partner with multidisciplinary teams to deliver AI-driven products that enhance customer experience and operational efficiency

Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain AI software components including foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, and model governance

Leverage open-source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, and PyTorch to build scalable solutions

Innovate and implement state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques to improve performance metrics like scalability, latency, throughput, and cost-efficiency

Contribute to the development of the technical vision and strategic roadmap for foundational AI systems at Capital One

Ensure AI solutions adhere to responsible AI principles, including fairness, transparency, and compliance with regulatory standards
