About The Role

As a Software Engineer within the North America Account team at Wise, you will play a pivotal role in developing and enhancing the infrastructure that supports the company's everyday account services. Your work will directly impact how customers receive salaries, pay bills, earn interest, and transfer money internationally—all from a single, transparent, and easy-to-use platform. You will be responsible for owning significant projects from conception through deployment, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of backend systems. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, Operations, Compliance, and Treasury, you will help deliver innovative solutions that prioritize customer experience while adhering to regulatory standards. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence customer engagement and trust by building the core platform that powers Wise's services in North America.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; advanced degrees are a plus.

Proven experience in backend development, ideally with Java and Spring Boot frameworks.

Strong understanding of microservices architecture, APIs, and relational databases.

Experience designing resilient, scalable, and secure distributed systems.

Familiarity with asynchronous processing, data consistency, observability, and operational reliability.

Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to translate customer needs into technical solutions.

Strong communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, agile environment and mentor team members.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain highly available backend services that support Wise's account functionalities using Java, Spring Boot, and related technologies.

Design and implement distributed systems with a focus on resilience, security, and scalability, incorporating best practices for asynchronous processing and data consistency.

Take ownership of end-to-end project delivery, from understanding customer problems and designing solutions to deployment, measurement, and ongoing maintenance.

Work closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, Compliance, and Operations to ensure solutions meet customer needs and regulatory standards.

Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, continuously improving engineering practices and operational tooling.

Contribute to the technical roadmap by providing innovative ideas and feedback on system design and architecture.

Mentor junior team members, conduct code reviews, and foster a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.

Participate in troubleshooting and resolving production issues promptly to ensure high service availability.
