About NutriScan
NutriScan is an early-stage iOS nutrition and health-tracking app for people managing Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, caregivers, and general nutrition goals. The product supports meal and nutrition logging, glucose and treatment logs, trends, optional Apple Health connections, and doctor-ready summaries of self-logged data. NutriScan is not a medical device and does not provide insulin-dosing recommendations.
About the role
We are hiring an AI Engineer / Backend Intern to help build reliable product and data systems for NutriScan. This is a remote, part-time internship requiring a minimum of 15-20 hours per week. The ideal candidate has completed a college degree and has strong software-engineering fundamentals, practical GitHub experience, and hands-on AI-engineering experience. Two or more years of relevant experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
Build and improve backend services, APIs, data models, and integrations. Develop responsible AI-assisted workflows for nutrition, glucose, treatment, and doctor-ready reporting features. Work with event data, weekly aggregation, retries, UTC boundaries, duplicate-run prevention, and partial-failure recovery. Use GitHub for branches, pull requests, code reviews, issue tracking, testing, and documentation. Use Claude effectively and responsibly for development, debugging, audits, documentation, and research while validating every output. Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teammates to turn feedback into clear technical next steps. Contribute to secure, privacy-conscious software for a health-related product.
Qualifications
Completed a college degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI/ML, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Strong programming and software-engineering fundamentals. Experience building backend systems, APIs, databases, or data pipelines. Demonstrated GitHub experience with collaborative development. Experience with AI engineering, LLM-assisted development, or applied machine learning. Able to use Claude effectively for business and engineering work, with careful review of generated code and recommendations. Strong communication, ownership, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. Able to commit at least 15-20 hours per week.
Compensation
Performance-based revenue-share compensation tied to revenue earned by the business rather than a guaranteed hourly wage. The exact compensation structure, eligibility, timing, and terms will be explained transparently and documented before acceptance.
