About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join Moody's Digital Content and Innovation team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining backend services and AI-powered features that underpin Moody's intelligent data products. Your expertise will contribute to building scalable, cloud-native applications and integrating advanced artificial intelligence models, including large language models, to enhance Moody's analytical capabilities. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, product managers, and fellow engineers, to deliver innovative solutions that drive the company's strategic objectives. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of AI and software engineering, shaping the future of risk assessment and decision-making tools.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on backend development, cloud-native applications, and microservices architecture.

Proficiency in programming languages such as TypeScript, Python, C#, or similar technologies, with demonstrated experience in building scalable APIs and distributed systems.

Hands-on experience developing enterprise AI applications utilizing large language models, retrieval augmented generation, orchestration frameworks, and model optimization techniques.

Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, system scalability, reliability, and security best practices.

Experience with cloud platforms, serverless architectures, event-driven systems, data pipelines, relational and NoSQL databases, including vector databases.

Proficiency in implementing machine learning operations (MLOps), including deployment pipelines, prompt versioning, automated evaluation, and monitoring.

Proven ability to lead end-to-end service development, from technical design to production support, with limited supervision.

Excellent communication skills, with experience mentoring engineers and promoting engineering excellence through code reviews, documentation, and testing.

Demonstrated knowledge of AI risk management principles and a commitment to responsible AI practices.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Software Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include designing, building, and operating backend services and AI-powered features that support Moody's data products. You will own the full lifecycle of your assigned features, from technical design and development to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement. Your work will involve developing large language model applications using retrieval augmented generation, orchestration frameworks, and agentic workflows, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.

Develop and maintain scalable backend services, APIs, and data pipelines supporting real-time and batch AI workloads.

Lead the end-to-end delivery of features, including technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support.

Enhance AI capabilities by building features utilizing retrieval augmented generation, evaluation methods, and tool integrations.

Participate in technical design reviews, identify potential risks, and propose alternative approaches to optimize system performance and reliability.

Implement best practices in automated testing, observability, monitoring, and alerting to ensure operational excellence.

Apply MLOps practices such as prompt versioning, automated evaluation, and deployment pipelines to maintain model performance in production.

Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams including product managers, data scientists, and fellow engineers to translate requirements into reliable, scalable solutions.

Mentor junior engineers, contribute to shared frameworks, and promote responsible AI development and deployment practices.
