Backend Senior Software Engineer – (Java / Python / C#) – Investment Banking

$120,000–$160,000 + bonus & benefits | Boston, MA | Hybrid – 3 days onsite | Permanent

We’re hiring strong Senior Backend Software Engineer to join the Boston technology team of an investment bank. Solving complex problems, designing scalable systems, taking technical ownership and leading small teams.

What you’ll be doing:

Designing and building high-performance backend systems

Helping modernise and replace components of a core legacy platform

Working across architecture, design and hands-on development

Building scalable services and microservices

Carrying out code reviews and helping maintain engineering standards

Leading and mentoring other engineers

Working closely with technical and business stakeholders

What we’re looking for:

Strong backend software engineering experience

Commercial experience with Java, Python or C#

Strong problem-solving and system design skills

Experience building scalable, distributed or high-performance systems

Experience with code reviews and leading other engineers

Experience with some of the following would be particularly useful:

Java

Kafka

Kubernetes / containerised microservices

Azure or other cloud platforms

Cucumber / BDD

Automated testing

Distributed systems

Salary: $120,000–$160,000 + bonus & benefits

Location: Boston, MA

Working pattern: Hybrid – 3 days per week onsite
