Software Engineer Manager
About the role
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in software development.
- 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
- 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
- Experience with Management, Project Execution, Ethernet Switching and
Stakeholder Management.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
- Understanding of modern AI/ML infrastructure, ideally including Network
Architecture.
- Understanding of modern AI/ML infrastructure, including Network Architecture.
- Excellent programming skills, particularly in C and C++, and experience with
large codebases, including open source and Third Party Codebases.

project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. Teams

system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design;

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple
teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of
large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

of Google’s data center switching needs. This is a highly impactful role that
directly contributes to Google being in the leadership position in the AI age.
The software we deliver runs on network switches responsible for continued
operation of Gemini, Cloud, Search, Ads, Youtube and all other Google products.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills,
experience, and relevant education or training.
US: $207000 - $300000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's
goals. Align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams.
- Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role and
aligned to the broader organization's goals. Meet regularly with individuals
to discuss performance and development and provide feedback and coaching.
- Develop the mid-term technical direction and roadmap within the scope of your
(often multiple) team(s). Evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future
requirements and infrastructure needs.
- Work with hardware and software systems, programming the data plane and
control plane for networking applications which drive the world's largest
network infrastructure.
- Manage a talented, high performing team that is responsible for the operating
system running on Google's data center network switches.
