  • About the Role

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Specialist, Software Engineering to support the development, integration, testing, and execution of software on targeted embedded hardware.

The role focuses on designing and implementing software based on requirements and system-level design documentation, with an emphasis on modern C++, embedded real-time operating systems (RTOS), hardware-software integration, and test automation.

The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the software development lifecycle and contribute to the development of advanced defense and aerospace technologies.

  • Key Responsibilities

Develop embedded software using modern C++ for real-time operating systems.

Apply computer science, engineering, and mathematical principles to embedded software development.

Translate software requirements and system-level design documentation into functional software solutions.

Collaborate with hardware, firmware, software, and systems engineering teams to define and evaluate technical interfaces.

Develop, document, and execute functional and unit testing in accordance with software development processes and coding standards.

Work closely with test engineers to support and influence test automation strategies.

Participate in hardware-software integration and formal system testing.

Support all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, design, implementation, integration, and testing.

Investigate complex technical issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective solutions.

Utilize modeling tools and test equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental testing, develop prototypes, and evaluate results.

Participate in peer code reviews and identify, track, and resolve software defects.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to support overall system performance and operational requirements.

Contribute to software documentation and engineering deliverables.

  • Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, with at least 4 years of relevant experience.

Alternatively, a graduate degree with at least 2 years of related experience may qualify.

In lieu of a degree, at least 8 years of relevant experience is required.

Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in computer or software engineering.

Minimum of 4 years of professional C++ development experience.

Experience developing software for embedded or real-time environments.

Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of War security clearance.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.

  • Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Green Hills RTOS.

Experience developing device drivers for real-time embedded systems.

Experience developing Board Support Packages (BSPs).

Strong knowledge of modern C++ programming techniques.

Experience with Agile Scrum or Kanban software development methodologies.

Working knowledge of Linux development environments.

Experience with embedded hardware-software integration.

Familiarity with software testing, defect tracking, peer reviews, and automated testing.

Experience working in defense, aerospace, UAS/UAV, radar, RF sensor, or other mission-critical technology environments.
