Harnham is conducting a confidential search for an established national real estate organization that owns, renovates, leases, and manages single-family rental homes across multiple U.S. markets.
The organization uses data and technology to improve leasing, property operations, maintenance, internal workflows, and the overall resident experience.
Position Overview
The Senior Software Engineer will design, build, and deliver scalable services and customer experiences using cloud-native technologies within Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The position is approximately 80% back-end and 20% front-end development, with a primary focus on serverless architecture, microservices, API development, system integrations, and production delivery.
The engineering team supports mobile applications, customer-facing portals, public websites, internal operational systems, external vendor integrations, and procure-to-pay platforms.
Engineers work closely with architects, business leaders, product partners, and other developers to translate business requirements into secure, reliable, and scalable technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and deploy highly scalable, cloud-native services within AWS
- Develop serverless applications and microservices using AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, Step Functions, Secrets Manager, and related AWS services
- Design and deliver REST APIs supporting mobile applications, customer-facing platforms, internal systems, websites, and external vendor integrations
- Develop back-end solutions using Node.js, Python, TypeScript, and JavaScript
- Contribute to front-end development using React, React Native, and GraphQL as required
- Partner with architects and senior engineers on solution design, system architecture, platform standards, and technical roadmaps
- Collaborate directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements, communicate progress, recommend solutions, and translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences
- Lead technical workstreams and provide technical direction throughout the software development lifecycle
- Conduct code reviews, promote development standards, and mentor junior engineers
- Develop proof-of-concept solutions to evaluate new technologies, architectures, and platform capabilities
- Support the refactoring and re-architecting of existing applications and services
- Identify opportunities to create reusable components and reduce duplicate development efforts across projects
- Support automated testing, user acceptance testing, production deployments, and post-release validation
- Coordinate with business partners to gather feedback from pre-release testers and address issues before production release
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and support secure, repeatable deployment processes
- Establish appropriate logging, monitoring, and alerting to support production stability and troubleshooting
- Document technical designs, solution blueprints, architecture decisions, risks, issues, and operational procedures
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field
- Minimum of five years of professional software development experience, with six to eight years strongly preferred
- Recent hands-on experience building and supporting production applications, services, or integrations within a U.S.-based business environment
- Demonstrated experience designing and building AWS serverless applications and microservices
- Production experience with AWS Lambda and related services such as DynamoDB, S3, SQS, Step Functions, or Secrets Manager
- Strong development experience with Node.js or Python, along with TypeScript and JavaScript
- Experience designing and delivering REST APIs, public APIs, and system integrations
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, system design, and integration patterns
- Hands-on experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, build processes, and production deployments
- Experience with tools and technologies such as GitHub, Bitbucket, Jenkins, Docker, containers, or infrastructure-as-code platforms
- Experience contributing to both back-end and front-end application development
- Demonstrated experience leading technical projects, conducting code reviews, or mentoring junior engineers
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience working directly with business stakeholders
- Ability to translate functional requirements into clear, scalable, and maintainable technical solutions
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality software within established timelines
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with React, React Native, or GraphQL
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, or other container technologies
- Experience with CloudFormation, AWS CDK, AWS SAM, or Terraform
- Experience working within Agile software development environments
- Experience with Jira
- Experience integrating with Salesforce or other enterprise platforms
- Experience supporting customer-facing web or mobile applications at scale

Work Schedule and Location
This position is based in Tempe, Arizona.
Employees are required to work from the Tempe office Monday through Thursday. Fridays provide remote flexibility based on business and team needs.
Candidates must be able to maintain the required in-office schedule. Fully remote arrangements are not available for this position.
Compensation
The anticipated base salary range is $125,000 to $140,000 per year.
The position is also eligible for a target annual performance bonus of 10%. The first-year bonus will be prorated based on the employee’s start date.
Final compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, technical expertise, qualifications, and internal compensation considerations.
