About the role

For our client, we are seeking a Senior Data Scientist - Ontology to join the team of a leader in the Healthcare space.

This role will focus on building and maintaining a robust ontology foundation that supports data alignment, record equivalence, and trustworthy knowledge representation across the organization. The ideal candidate will partner with governance stakeholders and technical teams to translate complex domain data into logically consistent structures that improve interoperability and decision-making. You will also help evaluate LLM-assisted extraction methods and contribute to the validation of ontology-driven outputs in a highly collaborative environment.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $128,000 – $170,000 annually

Responsibilities

Design and maintain comprehensive ontological structures for data alignment.

Establish rules for record equivalence across diverse systems.

Create documented mappings from various data sources to the canonical ontology.

Author OWL 2 axioms and ensure logical consistency using reasoners.

Collaborate with governance teams to ensure adherence to best practices.

Drive ontology discovery from empirical data, beyond mere schema interpretations.

Evaluate and guide LLM-assisted ontology extraction processes.

Qualifications

4+ years of experience in knowledge engineering or ontology development.

Proven track record of building and maintaining validated domain ontologies using Protege or similar tools.

Familiarity with ontology lifecycle management tools like ROBOT or ODK.

Proficiency in SPARQL and/or Cypher for data querying aligned with ontologies.

Experience in LLM-assisted knowledge extraction with formal validation.
