Software Engineer (Genomics Platform and Cloud Optimization)
About the role
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer with advanced systems-engineering and application-optimization expertise to join our team onsite. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced candidate interested in innovative software to advance biomedical research.
The successful candidate will take point in maintaining, administering, and monitoring our cloud infrastructure. While our current cloud platform is hosted within GCP (Google Cloud Platform), it can be adapted to other platforms such as AWS or Azure. Candidates who show strong expertise in GCP, AWS, or Azure should feel encouraged to apply, as you will be responsible for ensuring our platform runs smoothly as we scale.
In this role, you will apply full-stack skills to enhance our CodeXome® genomic platform running on Google Compute Engine virtual machines. You will bring high-level proficiency in asynchronous file transfers, identity lifecycle management, system-level compute optimization, multi-cloud adaptability, and modern UI engineering to maintain a seamless, high-performance experience for complex genomic data workflows.
Key Responsibilities
UI/UX Enhancement & Feature Expansion: Leverage React, TypeScript/JavaScript, and Node/Yarn to upgrade user workflows, refine application navigation, and build intuitive state-driven user interfaces.
High-Throughput Data Streaming: Deploy expertise in large-file chunking, network resilience, and streaming protocols to ensure seamless data flow into Google Cloud Storage (or equivalent cloud storage solutions).
Identity Management & Access Control: Apply robust patterns in session management, token validation, and RBAC implementations across Firebase Auth, Identity-Aware Proxy (IAP), and relational schemas.
Cloud Infrastructure Administration & Scale: Maintain, administer, and monitor cloud infrastructure across GCP (Google Compute Engine VMs), with an eye toward adapting or scaling services across multi-cloud environments like AWS or Azure.
Compute Architecture Optimization: Utilize OS-level resource monitoring, memory profiling, and virtual machine tuning to maximize execution efficiency for data-heavy workloads.
Backend Refactoring & Service Design: Apply strong microservices patterns in Go and C# / ASP.NET Core to build maintainable, error-resilient backend APIs.
Database & Infrastructure Maintenance: Optimize complex SQL and analytical query execution in MySQL and ClickHouse, maintaining secure network architectures with WireGuard VPN and GCP Secret Manager.
Core Qualifications & Mastery Areas
Cloud Infrastructure & Administration: Hands-on experience maintaining, administering, and monitoring cloud infrastructure in GCP (GCE, Cloud Storage, IAM), with adaptable expertise in AWS or Azure environment setup and scaling.
Frontend & UI Engineering: Extensive experience using React, TypeScript/JavaScript, and state management libraries alongside Node.js and Yarn to build responsive UI/UX architectures.
Data Streaming & Storage: Advanced skills in asynchronous file ingestion, stream processing, resilient network transfer protocols, and cloud bucket storage management.
Identity & Access Management: Deep knowledge of OAuth and session flow architecture, alongside hands-on proficiency with Firebase Auth, GCP IAM, Identity-Aware Proxy (IAP), and role-based access control (RBAC).
VM & Systems Engineering: Proven expertise in system profiling (CPU, RAM, and disk I/O), process optimization, and Linux/Windows server administration within virtual machine environments.
Backend & Microservices: Strong software engineering background using Go (Golang) and C# / ASP.NET Core, with an emphasis on RESTful API design, gRPC communication, and robust exception handling.
Databases & Networking: Demonstrated proficiency in database query performance tuning and index optimization for MySQL and ClickHouse, coupled with practical experience managing WireGuard VPNs and cloud secret management services.

About Cornerstone Genomics
Every amino acid substitution that survived 80 million years of primate evolution was tested by natural selection in organisms biochemically near-identical to us. If it persisted across 55 genera, biology already approved it. If it never appeared, biology hasn't permitted it. CodeXome captures that record. Not as a model's prediction, but as a direct empirical observation, and delivers it as residue-level annotation that drops into existing genomic interpretation pipelines. The result is a genuinely new evidence axis. Orthogonal to population frequency databases. Orthogonal to ML predictor scores. Orthogonal to deep vertebrate conservation tools. Adding CodeXome to a pipeline adds something none of those categories can provide: a biological fact about what nature actually tested and tolerated, at the specific amino acid position in question. What this enables: — 50–75% reduction in candidate variant lists before any manual review begins — 10–40% of Variants of Uncertain Significance identified as likely benign by evolutionary evidence, across ~14,000 ClinVar genes — Population-agnostic evidence that carries identical evidentiary weight regardless of patient ancestry Validated at scale: 100% concordance with expert panel classifications across the ClinGen 52-gene study (2,689 SNVs) and ENIGMA/BRCA Exchange (10,699 BRCA1/2 variants). Who we work with: Research genomics labs, rare disease programs, biotech target validation teams, and bioinformatics cores integrating new annotation sources into existing pipelines. CodeXome is a product of Cornerstone Genomics. Research use. Residue resolution. 19,244 genes. GRCh38.
