Embedded Software Engineer – Medical Devices

Location: Trumbull, CT (Onsite)

Duration: 6 months + extensions

Job Summary

We are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to support the development of medical device systems within a regulated, safety-critical environment. This role focuses on embedded firmware, real-time software, and hardware-adjacent systems used in life sciences and medical technology applications.

The ideal candidate will have experience developing and debugging embedded software and firmware on microcontrollers and microprocessors, working with FPGA-based architectures, and developing applications within real-time operating system (RTOS) environments.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and debug embedded software and firmware for medical devices and regulated systems.

Develop and maintain software for microcontrollers (MCUs) and microprocessors (MPUs) in real-time embedded systems.

Work closely with FPGA-based architectures for signal processing, hardware acceleration, and control logic.

Develop applications running in RTOS (Real-Time Operating System) environments.

Develop and tune closed-loop control systems, including temperature control, sensor feedback loops, and PID control algorithms.

Support Verification & Validation (V&V) activities in accordance with IEC 62304 medical device software lifecycle standards.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineering, systems engineering, firmware, and quality assurance.

Troubleshoot and resolve software and system-level issues in safety-critical embedded environments.

Contribute to the development and maintenance of software documentation and engineering deliverables in accordance with applicable regulatory and quality requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience developing embedded software for medical devices, life sciences, or other regulated systems.

Strong experience with MCUs, MPUs, and real-time embedded systems.

Experience with RTOS-based software development.

Familiarity with FPGA-based systems; VHDL or Verilog exposure is a plus.

Experience developing PID controllers and closed-loop control systems.

Knowledge of IEC 62304 and medical device software development practices.

Strong debugging, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
