Software Engineer
About the role
Cover is an AI security company developing concealed weapon detection systems. Cover's imaging technology scans students for concealed weapons in K-12 schools in the United States. Our goal is to deter school shootings by identifying concealed weapons inside of bags and underneath clothing. Our office for this hire is in Pasadena, CA and requires 5 days per week in-office work.
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated software engineer to build and maintain the visualization software for Cover's concealed weapon detection system. The candidate will join a strong team of engineers working across real-time imaging and signal processing to deliver a deployable commercial product.
The candidate will develop the real-time image rendering and signal visualization software that brings the instrument's data to life — enabling operators to see, interpret, and act on detection results in real time. The position is expected to last for two years with high potential for growth and follow-on employment at the company.
Responsibilities:
Build real-time image display pipelines that interface with custom digital processing hardware, AI threat-detection software, and an operator interface
Implement best practices for software maintenance and IT processes
Attend and present results and progress at bi-weekly meetings
Be present in the laboratory on a daily basis
Requirements:
College degree required. Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field acceptable, with compensation in accord with experience and degree level
Strong proficiency in software development for real-time data visualization (Python, C++, or similar)
Experience building GUIs for scientific or engineering applications (Qt, PyQt, Tkinter, or similar frameworks)
Familiarity with signal processing concepts and real-time data pipelines
Willingness and propensity to learn new skills and take on tasks outside the core job description
Ability to work collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team of hardware and software engineers
Motivated and invested in the success of the project
Due to technology export restrictions, applicant must be a US Person (citizen or legal permanent resident)
The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $150,000 - $350,000 annually.
The pay offered for this position may vary based on several individual factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include additional components/benefits depending on the specific role. This information will be shared if an employment offer is extended.
