About The Role

The Distinguished AI Engineer at Capital One plays a pivotal role in advancing the company's AI capabilities and delivering impactful solutions that reshape the banking experience. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, research scientists, product managers, and technical program managers to develop and deploy sophisticated AI-powered products. Your primary focus will be on designing, developing, testing, and supporting AI components such as foundation models, large language models, similarity search systems, and governance frameworks. You will leverage a broad array of open-source and SaaS AI technologies, including AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, and PyTorch, to build scalable and responsible AI solutions. Additionally, you will contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems, ensuring their alignment with business objectives and industry standards. Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation and a passion for building impactful AI systems. A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, coupled with at least 8 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms, is required. Alternatively, a Master’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience will also be considered. Extensive programming experience in Python, Go, Scala, or Java is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a deep understanding of hardware, software, and AI optimization techniques, along with experience deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure. Proven leadership skills in mentoring engineering teams and influencing cross-functional stakeholders up to senior management levels are highly valued. A strong grasp of state-of-the-art AI research and the ability to apply novel techniques in production environments are critical. Excellent communication skills are necessary to articulate complex AI concepts effectively to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

Partner with multidisciplinary teams to deliver AI-driven products that enhance operational efficiency and customer engagement.

Design, develop, test, and deploy AI components, including foundation models, large language models, similarity search, and observability tools.

Leverage open-source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, and Nemo Guardrails to build scalable solutions.

Invent and implement optimization techniques for large language models to improve performance metrics like scalability, latency, throughput, and cost-efficiency.

Contribute to the strategic technical vision and roadmap for AI systems at Capital One, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and business goals.

Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with stakeholders to integrate AI solutions seamlessly into existing systems.

Stay updated with the latest AI research, evaluate new tools and techniques, and judiciously apply them to solve complex problems in production environments.

Ensure compliance with governance, security, and ethical standards in all AI deployments.
