About The Role
We are seeking a talented and motivated Machine Learning Data Infrastructure Engineer to join our Perception team. In this hybrid role, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop scalable data collection, labeling, and evaluation systems that support the continuous improvement of the Waymo Driver. Your primary focus will be on creating large-scale datasets, developing automation pipelines for data mining and model updates, and designing infrastructure solutions that facilitate efficient model training and validation. You will play a vital role in optimizing the performance of perception models, ensuring they can handle the complexities of real-world environments. Reporting to a Technical Lead Manager, you will collaborate with ML infrastructure teams and problem domain specialists to streamline processes, address bottlenecks, and support the scaling of data needs for autonomous vehicle perception systems.
Qualifications
A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
4+ years of professional experience in software engineering and machine learning
Proficiency in C++ and Python programming languages
Experience designing distributed systems for processing data at scale, particularly in ML data infrastructure
Strong foundational understanding of machine learning principles and state-of-the-art methods
Passion for building world-class ML infrastructure and systems
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Responsibilities
Create large-scale datasets and develop training recipes for human and machine labeling processes
Design and implement automated data collection pipelines and model update flywheels for continuous learning
Develop evaluation methods to assess real-world model performance and detect regressions in updates
Understand data requirements of the problem domain team and design scalable infrastructure solutions to support model improvements and product expansion
Build and validate ML data infrastructure, ensuring it supports the scaling of VLM data needs
Collaborate with ML infrastructure teams and problem domain teams to resolve issues and optimize validation workflows
