Software Engineer, Payments
About the role
For our client, we are seeking a Software Engineer, Payments to join the team of a leader in the Business Services space.
This role will focus on building and improving scalable payment and risk-related systems that support secure, reliable transaction experiences. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to address fraud, mitigate risk, and strengthen the technical foundations behind payment operations. The position also offers the opportunity to influence engineering practices, observability, and product quality across the team.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $162,000 – $180,000 annually
Responsibilities
Design and build scalable systems for risk detection and mitigation
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address fraud and risk issues
Maintain integrations with third-party payment vendors
Iterate on risk detection strategies as scenarios evolve
Monitor and improve the quality and observability of risk systems
Advance engineering processes and technical foundations across teams
Qualifications
3+ years in Payments/Fintech as a backend software engineer
Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or Python; exposure to React is a plus
Experience with architectural patterns for large web applications
Strong focus on delivering end-to-end products, from ideation to A/B testing
Commitment to high code quality and engineering best practices
Collaborative mindset for working in cross-functional teams
Familiarity with experimentation and machine learning techniques
