Principal Software Engineer
About the role
For our client, we are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Information Technology space.
This role will focus on architecting and scaling the core data platform that powers fast, reliable access to large volumes of information. You will partner closely with engineering teams to design systems that support low-latency queries, real-time analytics, and cloud-native data processing at enterprise scale. The ideal candidate will help shape technical strategy, improve platform performance, and mentor engineers building mission-critical distributed systems.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $163,800 – $257,400 annually
Responsibilities
Design scalable infrastructure for the company's data platform with sub-second query latency
Architect and implement metadata-driven GraphQL APIs for dynamic schema generation
Develop asynchronous indexing systems to reduce primary data store load
Establish real-time analytics streaming data pipelines from BigTable to BigQuery
Create frameworks for data mutation and deletion while ensuring GDPR compliance
Build observability solutions for diagnosing real-time issues across distributed data systems
Mentor engineers and promote best practices for cloud-native data infrastructure
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
12+ years in software engineering, with a focus on large-scale data platforms
Proficiency in distributed NoSQL databases and data warehousing systems
Expertise in Java 8+, Scala, Kotlin, or GoLang for data systems
Experience with GCP or AWS and cloud-native architectures
Knowledge of streaming and real-time data processing technologies
Strong system design skills for architecting multi-tenant, distributed systems
