Sr. Java Software Engineer
Summary
Our client is seeking a Sr. Java Developer to join a backend team supporting a suite of complex, established billing and payment processing applications. This is a technical leadership role; the developer will serve as a point person alongside solution architects, provide the first draft of solutions to larger problems, and mentor more junior developers on the team.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain backend Java applications and web services.
Work within a complex legacy codebase to troubleshoot non-obvious issues and identify opportunities for improvement.
Partner with solution architects on larger technical problems and propose approaches.
Write and optimize SQL against a relational database.
Provide technical mentorship to less experienced developers.
Participate fully in Scrum ceremonies and collaborate daily with team members, QA, and the Scrum Master.
Requirements
6+ years of professional Java development experience (post-education).
Proficiency with Spring and Spring Boot.
Strong SQL and relational database experience.
Experience with Git-based source control and CI/CD workflows.
Demonstrated ability to operate independently and lead technically without direct management responsibility.
Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
Preferred
Experience supporting complex legacy or established systems.
Billing or payment processing domain experience.
Experience with a modern identity platform (Auth0, Okta, or similar).
Oracle and PL/SQL.
AWS, Kubernetes/EKS, and GitLab.
This is a 12-month Contract opportunity with our Kansas City, MO client.
