Senior Data Scientist – Marketplace Economics

A rapidly scaling consumer marketplace is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to own and optimize the economics of its marketplace. This is a high impact, high visibility role working directly with senior leadership to shape pricing, promotions, product scheduling, and overall marketplace performance. You’ll operate in a fast, experimental environment where insights can be shipped the same day.

What You’ll Work On

Own the analytical framework for marketplace economics: pricing, promotions, scheduling, demand, and margin trade offs

Design and interpret experiments to understand marketplace behavior and ambiguous results

Improve user acquisition, payment authorization rates, and promotion efficiency

Build models that quantify economic trade offs across shopper volume, demand, and margin

Partner closely with engineering and leadership to rapidly test and deploy insights

Create lightweight automations or instrumentation to support experimentation (AI assisted development welcome)

What You Bring

3–4+ years in data science applied to consumer apps, gaming, marketplaces, or performance marketing

Strong economic reasoning about systems (pricing, virtual economies, marketplace optimization)

Advanced SQL and Python skills

Strong statistical modeling depth beyond basic A/B testing

Experience in fast moving, high intensity environments (startup or similar)

Degree in math, statistics, economics, physics, or another quantitative field

End-to-end ownership mindset and comfort with autonomy

Nice to Have

Experience applying game economy or marketplace pricing concepts

Exposure to media buying or user acquisition analytics

Ability to ship small engineering automations

Background in applied economics, decision science, or game theory
