Applied AI Engineer
About the role
Role – Applied AI Engineer
Location – Central New York City – 5 days per week onsite
Salary - $200,000–$300,000
The Opportunity
If you live and breathe AI agents (whether that's through your day job, the products you build in your spare time, or probably both) this could be a very interesting next move. We're working with a rapidly growing, well-funded Series B AI software business applying agentic AI to complex, real-world workflows.
They've established a specialist AI Engineering team within the organisation focused on a bigger question: how can agents fundamentally change the way a company operates and how work gets done? You'll have the freedom and resources to experiment with the latest models, coding agents and tooling. However, the goal isn't experimentation for its own sake, they want the outcome and for the Applied AI Engineers to build agents and products that improve productivity and optimization for employees across the organisation.
You will get the opportunity to develop the Software Factory for a company whose aim is the be one of the most innovative companies in the world!
The Role
You'll:
Work directly with users to understand workflows, problems and opportunities for automation
Think beyond the code – understanding the underlying domain, workflows and desired outcome before deciding what to build
Design and build agents that perform meaningful, complex work
Experiment extensively with different models, Agent SDKs and emerging LLM tooling
Build full-stack products and infrastructure around agentic workflows
Develop evaluation and monitoring approaches to understand how agents are performing
Build tools and integrations that give agents access to the right systems, data and organisational knowledge
Operate with significant ownership over both the problem and the solution
The Person
We're looking for an exceptional product-minded engineer who is genuinely excited by where agentic software is heading.
You'll ideally bring:
Approximately 2–7 years' commercial software engineering experience
A strong academic background from a leading global university
Experience within a high-growth technology/startup environment
Evidence of building and shipping products & solutions
Strong full-stack engineering skills – TypeScript and/or Python would be particularly relevant
Meaningful hands-on experience building AI agents or agentic products, either professionally or through substantial personal projects
Experience experimenting with different LLMs, agent frameworks, SDKs and AI development tools
A strong product mentality and willingness to work directly with users
High levels of autonomy and comfort tackling ambiguous, open-ended problems
You may have been a Founding Engineer, early startup employee or someone who wants to build a company yourself one day. More important is the mentality: you're curious about the entire problem, not just the code required to solve one part of it.
This is an onsite environment in Central Manhattan, five days per week and the pay is $200-300k depending on experience and with a good benefits package on top.
