The Opportunity
As a dedicated Junior Software Engineer, you will join a dynamic, startup-minded team within the Investment Experience Technology organization at USAA, part of the Technology group. As an engineer on our new investment services platform, you will contribute to the design and implementation of impactful solutions. Collaborate with a strong team to deliver scalable, high-quality software. You’ll work with a modern tech stack—including Go, Java, APIs, OpenShift, and a wide range of USAA technologies—to help build the next generation of investment solutions. Our goal is to deliver differentiated, digital-first experiences that empower both our members and financial advisors with seamless, intelligent, and scalable tools.
Provides support to the Enterprise through delivering outstanding technology solutions. Engaged in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, responding to outages.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX or Plano, TX. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:
Under direct supervision, design, develop, code, and test technical solutions.
Write code to deliver features and improvements on a regular basis.
Investigate and resolve technical problems and production issues through troubleshooting techniques.
Contribute to improving application stability and scalability.
Create and maintain technical documentation.
Create and improve automated tests and code quality.
Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
Bachelor’s Degree or 2 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree OR Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT).
Software development experience with Java or Python..
Foundational and conceptual knowledge of function/discipline and demonstrated application of knowledge, skills, and abilities towards work products.
Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.
Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.
What sets you apart:
Experience with application maintenance and testing.
Working experience with programming languages.
Understanding of Agile Methodologies and the Software Development Lifecycle.
Experience developing applications with a focus on security, scalability, and performance.
Familiarity with build frameworks such as Gradle or Maven.
Experience with software version control systems based on GIT.
Exposure to CI/CD frameworks.
Experience with test-driven development and automated testing frameworks.
Basic understanding of cloud platform infrastructure.
Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $63,590.00 - 121,530.00.
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
