Applied AI Engineer
About the role
A global boutique hedge fund is making an early dedicated hire in applied AI and is seeking an engineer to establish and evangelize the firm's AI capability from the ground up. This is a foundational role with broad scope and high visibility, responsible for identifying, building, and delivering AI-driven solutions across the business while shaping the firm's overall AI strategy, tooling, and stack. The right individual will combine strong hands-on engineering ability with the judgment and communication skills needed to build organizational buy-in and demonstrate the value of AI across investment, operational, and corporate functions. This is an opportunity to define how a sophisticated firm adopts and scales AI.
Responsibilities:
Design, build, and deploy applied AI and LLM-based solutions that deliver measurable value across the firm.
Establish the firm's AI stack, including tooling, infrastructure, frameworks, and best practices.
Partner with stakeholders across the business to identify high-impact AI use cases and translate them into production solutions.
Evangelize AI capabilities across the firm, building awareness, trust, and adoption among both technical and non-technical teams.
Own AI initiatives end to end, from experimentation and prototyping through production deployment and ongoing iteration.
Requirements:
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
Strong software engineering skills with hands-on experience building and deploying applied AI, machine learning, or LLM-based systems in production.
Deep familiarity with the modern AI stack, including LLM frameworks, orchestration tooling, vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation, and related infrastructure.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and drive initiatives from concept to delivery with minimal direction.
Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to evangelize AI and build adoption across a firm.
An entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to operate effectively as a founding member of a new capability.
