About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join Palantir’s Substrate team, which is responsible for maintaining and developing Palantir's core production infrastructure. This role involves working with hundreds of Kubernetes clusters across diverse environments, including on-premises data centers, major cloud providers, and edge devices. Your primary focus will be on designing, building, and operating Palantir’s managed Kubernetes offerings to ensure seamless deployment, scaling, and security of containerized applications. You will play a crucial role in automating infrastructure management, enhancing system stability, and contributing to open-source CNCF projects, all while maintaining high standards of operational excellence.

Qualifications
Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in software development, with a focus on core infrastructure systems and operational excellence.
At least 2 years of experience in system design or architecture, including designing scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Strong programming skills in Go, C/C++, Java, or similar languages, particularly for automation and tooling development.
Hands-on experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or Kubernetes operators.
Deep understanding of hardware configurations, operating system tuning, networking fundamentals, and diagnostic tooling.
Extensive experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) at scale.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, or experience in data center operations.
Proven track record of designing and operating high-scale observability and infrastructure systems.
Knowledge of networking concepts, including cloud networking infrastructure and Container Network Interfaces (CNIs).
Responsibilities
Deliver a robust container runtime capable of supporting diverse environment types, including new cloud platforms, on-premise data centers, and edge devices.
Develop automation frameworks and establish standards for secure, scalable Kubernetes operations with minimal manual intervention.
Drive innovation by adopting and integrating new Kubernetes features and CNCF tools, contributing upstream as necessary.
Design the next generation of Palantir's infrastructure by leveraging a deep understanding of internal systems and industry standards.
Ensure the scalability, stability, and security of infrastructure across multiple compliance regimes and hosting environments.
Build tools and processes that preemptively identify and resolve issues, emphasizing automation and self-healing capabilities.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve deployment pipelines, monitoring, and incident response processes.
