Job Description:

We’re KSM, one of the top 50 largest independent advisory, tax, and audit firms in the United States. But more than our size, it’s our people and culture that set us apart. Position Summary

The AI and Innovation team builds and productionizes high-impact internal software from the ground up to help teams across KSM work smarter. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to focus on building the core of our applications, including integrating data from platforms and APIs, developing the logic that processes and analyzes it, and building the services (increasingly including LLM- and agent-powered ones) that power what each application does. Your primary focus will be on the data and backend layer of applications and you will work closely with other engineers in the innovation team as well as stakeholders in the business to turn real problems into reliable systems.

What You’ll Do

Build backend logic, agents, services, and APIs that integrate, transform, and analyze structured and semi-structured data from multiple sources to implement workflows and surface insights

Work directly with stakeholders across the firm to translate business processes and workflows into well-architected greenfield technical implementations

Provide technical leadership in data and AI systems and review code across applications to uphold standards for quality, security, and maintainability

Develop comprehensive application testing frameworks and evaluation infrastructure that make non-deterministic systems reliable and trustworthy

Design the data architecture (databases, models, and pipelines) that unify disparate systems of record into something applications and agents can reason over

Produce and maintain clear technical documentation as systems evolve

What We’re Looking For

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience

6+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong track record in backend and/or data engineering work

Demonstrated experience shipping LLM-powered applications to production (retrieval pipelines, embeddings, model APIs, and prompt and context design)

Experience designing agentic or multi-step AI workflows including orchestration, tool and function calling, error handling, and quality monitoring

Expertise in Python for backend web development and data processing and analysis

Strong SQL and data modeling skills, plus a track record of integrating data from many disparate systems including APIs, data platforms, and unstructured document stores

Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and deployment (e.g., AWS), infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD workflows

Experience translating defined business requirements into robust, maintainable systems

A rigorous approach to data accuracy, quality, and security, especially when working with sensitive or regulated data

Ability to collaborate across functions and communicate technical decisions to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to Have

Experience with Databricks or comparable data platforms

Comfort applying machine learning techniques to well-defined, structured problems

Front-end familiarity (TypeScript, React) to collaborate effectively across the stack

Proficiency in maintaining and debugging application via logging and monitoring

Experience in tax, accounting, or professional-services domains

We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, veteran status, or any other protected category.

KSM only accepts resumes directly submitted by a candidate and referrals submitted by current KSM employees. Unsolicited resumes or candidate profiles sent by staffing agencies and fee-based referral services will not be considered outside of a signed KSM vendor contract.
